For our CAN interface boards of the esdACC-based CAN 402 series, our driver for the SocketCAN framework has now been accepted by the Linux community. It has been integrated into the "mainline" kernel - the unchanged original sources - of version 6.9.
This is a prerequisite for the SocketCAN support of the CAN 402 series to find its way into the major distributions, such as Debian, Fedora or Ubuntu, which derive their kernels from "mainline".
So far, the driver only supports the interface cards in CAN classic mode. In one of the upcoming kernel versions, the kernel bitrate calculator will be adapted to our CAN FD bitrate algorithm, so that CAN FD mode will also be possible.
If you are still dependent on older kernel versions, we can offer ported modules of the driver for your kernel. This is possible back to version 4.9. The ported modules of the driver are available on request from our support team. At the same time, our esdcan driver with its OS-independent NTCAN API remains unchanged under Linux.
We would be happy to advise you on SocketCAN and our CAN interfaces or provide you with further information.
