CAN XL with Backward Compatibility
The interface supports CAN CC, CAN FD, and CAN XL according to ISO 11898-1:2024. CAN XL enables larger payloads and higher data rates compared to CAN CC and CAN FD, which can reduce protocol overhead in data intensive applications. Existing CAN CC and CAN FD networks can be used with the same host interface and the same NTCAN API.
What is CAN XL?
CAN XL is the next generation of CAN technology, enabling the transmission of larger amounts of data while supporting modern communication requirements.
Drivers and OS Support
Driver packages for Windows and Linux are available free of charge. RTOS driver support is available on request and subject to an additional license fee. Applications use esd’s NTCAN API for configuration, data handling, and status information.
Isolation and selectable Termination
Each port provides galvanic isolation and a jumper selectable 120 Ω termination.
The standard product uses a DSUB9 connector per port.
OEM Variants and Customization
The standard product provides two CAN ports with DSUB9 connectors. Variants and OEM configurations for series can be defined upon request.
Free drivers for Windows and Linux included
The product is offered with drivers for Windows and Linux, which can be downloaded free of charge.

Free CAN tools for fast setup and diagnosis of CAN networks
Our CAN tools for Windows, which are available free of charge in the CAN SDK, significantly support the user in quickly setting up and easily diagnosing CAN, CAN FD and CANopen networks. The possibility of data logging helps the user to record the data traffic for later analysis and to process it further as a CSV file.
