esd extends CBX-IO-series

esd has extended its CAN-CBX-I/O series by some new interesting products, which we would like to introduce to you in the following. The CAN-CBX-PT100 and CAN-CBX-Thermo complete our analog CAN-CBX modules in terms of temperature measuring with various thermocouples and resistors.

The new wireless CAN-CBX-AIR/2 is similar to our well known CAN-AIR/2, but extends the wireless connection range up to 400 meters.

The CAN-CBX-Pt100 is designed for the direct connection of up to four temperature sensors. Simple resistance measurements can also be performed. Pt- and Ni-resistance sensors are supported. The sensor resistors can be connected in two- or four-wire configuration.

The conversion of the four sensor resistor inputs is realized by four independent ΣΔ-converters.
Linearisation according to NIST is achieved by the on board microcontroller.

The CAN interface is designed according to ISO11898-2 high-speed layer with electrical isolation and supports bit rates up to 1 Mbit/s. The CANopen-node number and the CAN bit rate can be easily set via coding switches. Four LEDs indicate the module and CANopen node status.

The CAN-CBX-PT100 features the possibility to connect the power supply and the CAN bus signals via the InRailBus connector (TBUS-connector) integrated in the mounting rail. Individual modules can then be removed from the InRailBus without interrupting the bus signals.

The module comes with CANopen firmware according to CiA 301 and supports the CiA 404 profile for measuring devices.

The CAN-CBX-THERMO is designed for direct connection of up to four thermocouples. Depending on the selected sample rate and the external wiring a resolution of at least 1 μV can be achieved. For cold junction compensation the temperature of the the sensor clamp is measured by a digital temperature sensor.

The CAN-CBX-AIR/2 is designed for bridging two different CAN networks via a radio link. It supports data exchange between CAN nets with two different baud rates. This stand-alone mode can be used e.g. to get access to CAN modules installed at turning machine parts via a point-to-point connection.

Today’s most common PC interface USB is used to configure CAN-CBX-AIR/2. But beside this - CAN-CBX-AIR/2 enables a PC to transmit and receive CAN data via USB and CAN-CBX-AIR/2 into and from a distant CAN-CBX-AIR/2 for e.g. service and maintenance.

CAN-CBX-AIR/2 comes with an easy to use Windows based configuration tool. All settings will be stored within the device. Access via esd’s ntcan API is supported.
